Know Thyself: Approaching Meditation With Mindfulness
Baby steps will help you learn how to live in the moment and quiet your restless mind.
A profound irony of stress is that the best way to manage it is to get deeper into it.
This is called “mindfulness,” and it’s Meditation 101.
For many, meditation’s serenity is out of reach because their minds are, well, a mess. Chilling may be attractive, but clearing the mind while perched on a floor pillow will drive Type As to scream.
Madeline Ebelini was an attorney for 20 years and her body reflected all that implies: insomnia, worry and pain. Sleeping became a joke with all of the day’s concerns on instant replay and revision, a 90 mph whirl in her head. After her son haunted her with sticky notes badgering her to see a doctor, she finally sought help for her stress. The doctor suggested a yoga class.
“It was in that class that I was introduced to the ancient practices of quieting the mind,” Ebelini said.
Ancient, yes. Without scientific merit? Not at all. The ancient seers knew then and medical professionals today now know that there is a link between the mind and the body, between stress and disease (or dis-ease). (MORE)

I am pretty new to meditation and deep listening, but it has been really beneficial for me.
I am doing a morning practice of listening and meditating, and then capturing my thoughts. My inspiration from this morning felt pretty special - so I thought I would share them.
