All one needs is a human body. The air is auniversal element in this world, in which everyonecan breathe. No matter where we go in the planet,we will find air. Meditation is like the air – universaland essential. If we do not close our minds, but rather, consider it carefully, we realize that we can stillfollow the religion we believe in and incorporatemeditation. To not think at all, anyone of anyreligion in this world can do, whether one is aBuddhist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, and so on.To not do something is not against the law, is notimmoral, and does not go against any ancienttradition. Searching for the TruthIn the Pali language, ‘natthi santiparamsukham’ means ‘there is no happiness otherthan the peace of mind.’ The happinessthat one cannot explain with words is thehappiness that arises from a still mindin meditation. The attainment of innerhappiness is something that everyonecan do if we give ourselves the opportunity.Does truth exist? Does true happiness exist? Wecan discover the answers to these questions andthen share them with the world. The first step is to search for the truth.Meditate and clarify the mind. When we do so,happiness will be within reach. It is like when weare about to learn a foreign language. We mustforget our native language to learn the new. Studythe subject of life in the same manner. You mustforget other things temporarily. Then you willdiscover the many benefits of meditation. This knowledge is the universal knowledgethat everyone has the right to learn. We must seekthe answers within ourselves, by ourselves. We willbe both the student and the teacher. The libraryof true knowledge is within us. It can be accessedby closing your eyes and expanding the mind. Ifyou search for the answer, you will find it.Therefore, if people in the world temporarilyforget their differences in religion, personalbeliefs, traditions, customs, or cultures, and allowtheir minds to open, they can begin practisingmeditation and reaching true inner happiness. There are many religious followers who haveopened their minds to the practice of meditation.Their perception of the world evolved from oneof suffering to indescribable happiness. More andmore people, adults and children, are beginningto experience this as they open their minds andfollow the right principles.
Different Shells but theSame CoreDifferences arise as we grow up and startto recognise the variation in nationality, religion, race, skin colour, social status, appearance, etc. Differences can contribute to division andconflict. But once we close our eyes, the differencesdisappear. Thus, we should close our eyes to seekthe universal happiness inside. When we seethe universal truth, all differences will becomeinsignificant. The conflicts in this world willvanish. We will think, speak, and act in harmony. In other words, we will think only about virtuousdeeds, resulting in the progression of goodDhamma. Goodwill and fellowship will arise.People will seek happiness from giving, not justby taking or receiving. It will be as if there are noborders. We will all feel a sense of belonging to thesame brotherhood.
The Universal Sentiment ExpressedBy Luangphaw DhammajayoPeople may have external differences, but their innermost self is the same. It is thesimilarities that transcend their differences.Nationality or religion does not matter. Afterthey bring their minds to a standstill, all of themdescribe the same feeling: that meditation bringsabout great unlimited happiness that they havenever encountered before. If everyone in the world has the same goalor dream of seeing true peace in the world, aworld with no borders, no soldiers, no police,a world where people have only love and goodwishes for each other, true peace will not bedifficult to achieve. True world peace begins withinner peace, when our minds are still and calm.Once everyone can do this, true world peace canhappen at this very moment. To share in the same dream, we must learnand experience meditation altogether. However, people cannot communicate effectively withone another yet. There are many barriers inour communication, such as custom, tradition, culture, language and geography. If we canovercome these barriers and communicate to theworld about how to still the mind, we will havetrue world peace. This is not just a dream, but adetermination to make it a reality.
