Instructors Stress Daily Meditation

‘Just do it.” That’s the most important piece of advice meditation instructor Pam Sanchez shares with her students. “I think it’s the most worthwhile practice there is,” Sanchez said. “It’s good for all ages, all religions and all walks of life.”

Sanchez is a certified meditation instructor and facilitator who teaches at the Spiritual Enrichment Center in Redding. She said that meditation benefits the body, mind and spirit. All it takes is daily practice. “Just like physically training yourself, it’s going to take time,” she said.

Sanchez said that it’s best to start slow. That belief is shared by fellow meditation instructor Sharon Kennedy. “Start with five minutes and build up,” Kennedy said.

Both women prefer to begin their day with meditation, but suggest early evening as an alternative. Sanchez devotes a small room in her home to meditation. She sits cross-legged on a cushion on the floor.
