Cancer – How to Deal With Stress

Stress has been implicated as an important factor in breast cancer though it may not be the main reason behind the onset of the disease. However, it makes sense to reduce stress and improving lifestyle and diet will help sufferers to cope.

It helps to talk – unresolved feelings of fear, anger and guilt are damaging negative emotions that need to be addressed and by banishing them you can develop a new perspective for the future. Counselling is useful but not always the answer; there are other professionals such as psychotherapists, self-help groups or hypnotherapists. Seek help from those who can suggest simple aids to help you develop simple coping strategies to use every day. Relaxation is the real key to reducing stress and tension; try meditation or yoga; visualisation is also a helpful technique to learn.
Rely on friends and family, who know you well enough to help without commenting or criticising.
