Meditation Relaxation Rechnique not Sole Province of Eastern Religions

Meditation — that's something that involves Eastern religion, cross-legged sitting and mantra chanting, right?

Well, sometimes.



Meditation can be practiced while sitting in a chair, lying down or walking. Meditators can focus on a word, a concept or an image, or they might try not to think of anything. Some forms of meditation are associated with Eastern religions, but other forms are rooted in Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam. Other forms are secular.

"Meditation is a personal thing," said the Rev. Deane Oliva, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Evansville.

"There is no one way to do it."

However they practice, those in the Tri-State who meditate say it helps them cut through the mental clutter and connect with something deeper. (More)
