Artist Laura Harris takes a walk every morning near the water at her home in the little seaside town of Cadboro Bay, Victoria, sometimes with her husband Jordy, sometimes with their six-year-old daughter Madelaine, but most often with her Boston terrier, Norris.

“He’s my sidekick,” she said in a telephone interview, noting he often gets as much attention in the media as her painting.

Each time, Harris returns home inspired, heads directly to her studio, cranks the stereo, and sets to work on one of her large, uplifting, glowingly impassioned abstract and semi-abstract paintings – around 15 of which will be highlighted in her upcoming exhibition and sale, On The Horizon, noon to 4 p.m., Sept. 28 at White Rock Gallery (1247 Johnston Rd.).
